August 14, 2020
Dear Light of Christ Catholic Schools Families:
We hope you and your families are enjoying the summer weather and doing well. We would like to provide a brief update as we near the start of the 2020-21 school year.
As mentioned in a previous communication, our Return to School Plan has been posted on the Light of Christ Catholic School Division website (www.loccsd.ca). As the situation changes, please understand our plan will be amended as updates are received from the Government of Saskatchewan and our Chief Medical Health Officer. Our plan will be updated by August 19, and we encourage you to refer back to our plan often to see the most recent changes. Each school will also complete a Return to School Plan specific to their school that will be available on August 24. Please contact your school directly if you have any questions.
With the guidance of our Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, Light of Christ Catholic School Division will move to level II of the Safe Alternatives and the following mask protocols will be in place:
All students will be required to wear a mask on buses.
Grades PreK – Grade 3 students are not required to wear masks. Parents may choose to provide masks for their children and school staff will support their use as practical during school hours.
Grades 4 – 12 students are required to wear masks where physical distancing is not possible. This means masks must be worn upon entry to and exit from the school, while in classrooms, hallways, or common areas when 2 metres of physical distancing is not possible. Masks are not required for outside activities as long as physical distancing is in place.
All Staff are required to wear masks where physical distancing is not possible.
Any Parents or Visitors will be required to wear a mask while in the school. However, access to schools will be restricted during this time. Please contact your school regarding protocols for accessing the school.
LOCCS will provide two reusable masks for each student as supplies arrive and disposable masks will be provided in the meantime. We recommend that you purchase three additional masks per child, so they will have one clean mask per day. We are currently considering level III Safe Alternatives. These Alternatives include:
Cohorting in our elementary schools. Specifics for each school will be in their school-based plan available on August 24. Please contact your Principal if you have any questions.
Information around staggering recess, lunches, and pick-up/drop-off locations will also be outlined inthe school-based plans as they are specific to each school.
Level III hybrid models and alternative schedules are being considered in our High School.
If you have not done so already, please register for the upcoming school year. Registration forms can be found on the LOCCS division website (www.loccsd.ca) and our schools websites. If you have any questions about registration, please contact your school directly.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We have spent the last several months developing a plan that we are confident will ensure the safety of students and staff, reduce anxiety around the return to school, and foster a learning environment that supports all our students. We look forward to seeing your children and having them back in our schools.
Further updates will be provided when necessary.
